Maryland Map Submission Portal Now Available for Citizens to Create Maps for Redistricting

Press Release Adjusted Census Data Now Incorporated into Map Submission Portal (September 2, 2021) BALTIMORE, MD - The Maryland Department of Planning (Planning) has added a map submission portal, which includes adjusted 2020 Census data, to redistricting.maryland.gov. While the Census data was released to all states on August 12, 2021, Maryland is one of nine states required by state law to reallocate incarcerated residents to their last known address. By incorporating this adjusted Census data into the portal, citizens can now begin creating their own redistricting maps. Census Bureau Announces “Early” Release Date for Easier-to-Use Formats for Redistricting Data

Press Release SEPT. 1, 2021 — The U.S. Census Bureau will release easier-to-use formats of the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) Summary File on September 16. Also on September 16, redistricting data will be available through the Census Bureau’s primary data dissemination tool, data.census.gov. The Census Bureau will also deliver an easy-to-use toolkit of DVDs and flash drives to state officials and public bodies responsible for their state’s legislative apportionment or districting. Illinois Legislature Adopts House and Senate Maps in Special Session

The Illinois House and Senate approved new state legislative boundaries during a special session on Aug. 31. The maps revised earlier legislative redistricting plans enacted in June that were based on less detailed census data. This was done to meet the state constitution’s June 30 deadline for approving a state legislative redistricting plan. The recently approved maps were drawn using the census block-level data from the 2020 census that was released on Aug. 12.
