Delaware 2022 Districts

Open map as PDF:   Senate       House

Delaware retains a single at-large U.S. House seat; no new congressional map was required after the 2020 census and apportionment.

The General Assembly set state legislative districts through regular legislation. Lawmakers passed a new House and Senate plan in Senate Bill 199 on November 1, 2021, and the governor signed it on November 2, 2021. The legislature later made what it called technical revisions, including eliminating election districts containing no residents, or very few residents. The bill was House Bill 335 (passed March 23, 2022; signed April 1, 2022).

Effort to take politics out of Delaware redistricting
A bill making its way through Legislative Hall in Dover would take the district line drawing authority away from lawmakers and give it to a special commission. Naturally, that effort has drawn opposition mostly along party lines. Gerrymandering. The word is loaded with negative connotations of partisan politics. Gerrymandering is defined as using the process of redrawing district lines to benefit one political party. Delaware's Senate and House districts are redrawn every ten years to coincide with the results of the U.S. Census. The process is done by leaders of both chambers, currently all Democrats. But a proposal from state Senator Bryan Townsend would put an end to that and would create an independent commission to redraw the lines.
