2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission
Accepts Resignation of Executive Director
SACRAMENTO, CA—Today, the 2020 California Citizens Redistricting Commission (Commission) accepted the resignation of its Executive Director, Daniel Claypool, effective immediately. The announcement was made after a closed session that began late Tuesday and continued into Wednesday afternoon.
“The California Citizens Redistricting Commission has accepted the Executive Director’s resignation and thanks him for his service in ensuring a solid base for our work going forward,” stated Chair Pedro Toledo. “Our priority remains to ensure transparency and fairness while redrawing the district maps. We look forward to starting the next chapter in our journey with a search for a new executive director and remain committed to the people of California, whose trust is vital to our success.”
Claypool, who also served as Executive Director for the 2010 California Citizens Redistricting Commission, was hired by the 2020 Commission on October 5, 2020 after a search to lead the setup of the new Commission following the seating of the full body in August.
The next Executive Director will be charged with leading the Commission staff through the coming phases leading to the creation of the new district maps. A search committee will convene immediately to begin the search.
