Princeton biophysics professor San Wang has an early critique of Efficiency Gap analysis (EG) – a method for measuring partisan gerrymandering that received unexpected support from a federal district court panel in Western Wisconsin this past week. In his article, Wang points out some weaknesses of the model and suggest a “100 year” old statistical model that would measure partisan asymmetry along the same lines as efficiency gap analysis would. More importantly, it would minimize the inherent weakness of EG. According to Wang, ” the mean-median difference is a good measure of partisan asymmetry even in years like 2010 and 2014, when the efficiency gap was low.” Read Wang’s assessment here.
