
Controversy is brewing over an ill-timed executive decision affecting Alabama DMV offices. Alabama’s new voter ID law went into effect in June 2014. It requires a valid photo ID including passports, military id, and a state issued driver’s license. Voters without the required identification can obtain a free photo id from the state of Alabama. Recently, the state advised it would shut down dozens of satellite driver’s license offices. The governor insists its a budget crisis response while a host of Democrats point to racial politics.
